Year 1 – Badgers

Welcome to Year 1 - Badgers!

Your class teacher is Mrs Witts

Year 1 pupils do PE every Wednesday and Friday so please ensure your  child's  PE kit is in school at all times including appropriate clothing for when going outside.

We would like to kindly remind all parents that all children's earrings should be removed ready for PE days unless they are less than 6 weeks old when plasters should be supplied to cover the earrings during PE.

We will be going outside in all weathers, so please make sure that your child comes to school wearing appropriate clothing. As the weather is becoming warmer we ask that the children come to school with sun cream already applied and sun hats; wellies are brilliant for outdoor learning as we might get a little muddy!

Southwell Minster Trip

We had a fantastic day at Southwell Minster and learned lots of new facts about Christianity and the Minster itself. The children took part in some fantastic activities and their behaviour was excellent, which the adults at Southwell Minster commented upon. The Minster is open every day and welcome visitors if you want to visit.

Aboriginal Art

As part of our learning about Australia, we have been looking at how the Aborigines use dots in their art work, to create patterns or animal shapes. We thought it was great, so we had a go at doing some ourselves. The results have been amazing!

Tens and Ones

We have been looking at two digit numbers this week and finding the value of each digit. We used 'sticks' to show tens and 'stones' to show ones. The children then had a go at adding them too. Lots of great work to show their understanding.

Maths- Capacity

We have been using the correct maths language when measuring with water. The children were able to work cooperatively and have lots of fun too!

Golden Time Reward

For our fantastic behaviour, we had a Teddy Bear's Picnic on Friday. The children brought their favourite bear and we really enjoyed the picnic snacks.

Farm to Fork - Tesco Visit

We visited Tesco to find out which countries around the world our food may have come from.

We got to see places in the store where customers don't normally get to go, like the chillers and the warehouse. Tasting all the different fruits was one of our favourite things. The Badgers class had a fantastic time and we learned lots of food facts.

As one of our school values is 'Independence' Over the past few weeks we have been learning about what it means to be independent and how we can be more independent at school. Here are some ways we can be independent at school!

The badgers have been working really hard on writing and building sentences. We have been using rainbow grammar to help us to remember how to write sentences and what a sentence is. We worked in groups to create sentences before swapping our sheets with another group, challenging them to highlight the different parts of the sentence correctly! Look at our fab work!

We had lots of fun creating 'Masai tribe houses' from salt dough during our themed Geography day!

At Maun we use Rainbow Grammar to teach sentence structure. Open the document below to find out more.

We had lots of fun baking our scrummy apple cake for the harvest!
