Art

In Art, a Maun child will be ....

Intent

At Maun we believe that art is a vital part of a child’s development. It encourages creativity, helps children to express themselves, and supports their cognitive, physical, and emotional growth. Our art curriculum is designed to provide a range of opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and develop their skills and knowledge in various art forms. We aim to promote creativity, self-expression, and positive social and emotional development in all our children.

The art curriculum at Maun is designed to foster wider development linked to our curriculum drivers; possibilities, resilience, and identity. Through a range of art forms, materials and techniques, we aim to provide children with opportunities to explore and experiment, encouraging a sense of possibility and creativity.

Art activities can sometimes be challenging, requiring patience, perseverance and problem-solving skills. By providing opportunities for children to overcome these challenges and succeed in their art projects, we can help build resilience and a growth mindset. The process of creating artwork can be therapeutic, and we encourage children to use art as a way to process difficult emotions and experiences, helping them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

Through art, children can express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a tangible way, encouraging the development of a sense of identity. We encourage children to create artwork that reflects their unique identity and experiences, building their self-esteem and sense of self. By celebrating diversity and exploring different cultures, traditions, and art forms from around the world, we can help children develop an appreciation for different perspectives, building their cultural competence.

We encourage reflection, helping children to develop their critical thinking skills. Through art, children can reflect on their experiences, thoughts, and feelings, developing a deeper understanding of themselves and others. Art can also help children develop their communication skills, encouraging collaboration and teamwork as they work together on group projects. By fostering wider development linked to possibilities, resilience and identity, through our art curriculum, we aim to support our students in becoming well-rounded individuals who are confident, curious and empathetic.
