Summer 2
Our famous person this term is – Bob Marley.
Our key question is – What can music show about my identity?
Our concepts are – Passion, Identity, Creativity
In English will be using the text – Gregory Cool to write our own recounts about a Jamaican holiday. Also, during this term, we will look at performance poetry by Benjamin Zephaniah and use our creative writing skills to compose our own poems.
We will continue to use Power Maths as our Maths scheme in school, this term we will focus on our skills for measures, position & direction and problem-solving skills.
In Science we will be looking at living things. We will learn about microhabitats and link this to minibeasts.
In music, we will of course be exploring different songs by Bob Marley. We will consider the messages in the songs and how they make us feel. We will begin to use tuned instruments.
RE this term will be all about stories from the Bible and The Torah - we will understand how these stories have a message for how we can live our own lives. Examples of stories we will focus on this term are – Daniel and the Lions, Queen Ester and Abraham & Sarah.
In PSHRE, our Talking Points books / discussions will be linked to healthy and respectful relationships. We will also explore the word – consent.

SUMMER 1.
This term our famous person is the athlete Wilma Rudolph. Our key text will be Amazing Grace - both of these link well to our question of 'How can I make my dreams come true?' and our concepts of belief, prejudice and aspirations. Both these key people (Wilma Rudolph and Grace) faced problems in life that might have stopped them achieving their goals but with resilience, determination and courage their dreams came true.
In Science we will revisit the Materials unit. We will know how materials can be changed by squashing, twisting and bending. We will also know the meaning of the words transparent, translucent and opaque through testing different materials.
As we are learning about an Olympic athlete, we will use our History lessons to find out about the Olympic games and make comparisons with the ancient and modern games. In Art, we will look at clay pots from the ancient Olympic times and make our own creations.
RE this term will be all about stories from the Bible and The Torah - we will understand how these stories have a message for how we can live our own lives. Two stories we will focus on this term are - Noah's Ark and Jonah and the Whale.
Computing continues with our learning about algorithms, but we now move onto coding. We will be using algorithms to input into devices to make them work.

Spring 2.
Our famous person this term is – Ingeborg Beling.
Our key question is – Can I be small and mighty?
Our concepts are – care, belonging and individuality.
In English will be using the text – The Gruffalo to write instructions. Also during this term, we will look at poetry and use our creative writing skills to compose our own poems about bees and pancakes! Later on, we will be writing non-chronological reports about bees. We will continue to use Power Maths as our Maths scheme in school, this term we will focus on our skills for measures, shapes and fractions. In Science we will be looking at Plants. We will learn about plant life cycles and what plants need to grow well. RE is all about Christianity; we will learn how Christian people show they belong. This will include learning about the importance of baptisms and celebrations such as Easter. Our Computing unit will be Algorithms. Here we will learn about instructions particularly linked to computer devices. In DT this term, we will be completing some food technology during a project day. This will be using honey to bake honey biscuits. During music we will continue to learn songs from the Voices Foundation and we will also focus on learning about rhythm and pulse using The Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky Korsakov. In PSHRE, our Talking Points books / discussions will be linked to different feelings and what they can look like. We will also explore the word – compromise.

Our key question is - How Have Inventions Changed Over Time?
Our concepts are - Change, Resilience and Health.
In English will be using the text - George's Marvellous Medicine. From this we will develop our writing skills for narrative writing. Later in the term we will look at poetry and use our creative writing skills to compose our own poems. We will continue to use Power Maths as our Maths scheme in school, this term we will focus on our skills for multiplication and division before moving on to statistics and measures. In Science we will be looking at animals including humans. We will learn about offspring, life cycles and ways to keep healthy. RE is all about Judaism; we will learn how Jewish people show what they believe and how they show they belong. This will include learning about the story of Creation, important places and special days. Our Computing unit will be covered during Internet Safety Week; this will allow us to consolidate our learning about keeping safe online from the autumn term. History this term will take us back through Victorian times to the present day. We will specifically look at transport and how the invention of the bike impacted on our world. In DT this term, we will be learning about the use of wheels and axles. Our end goal is to make a wheeled toy. In PSHRE, our Talking Points books / discussions will help us learn about keeping healthy and safe around medicines.

Autumn 2.
Our famous person this term is - Pocahontas.
Our key question is - What Makes a Good Role Model?
Our concepts are - Friendship, Influence and Responsibility.
In English will be using the text - Young Pocahontas an Indian Princess. From this we will develop our writing skills for non fiction texts of biographies and non-chronological reports. Later in the term we will look at poetry and use our creative writing skills to compose Christmas poems. We will continue to use Power Maths as our Maths scheme in school, this term we will continue to focus on our skills for addition and subtraction as well as multiplication, division and money. In Science we will be looking at habitats, we will learn about the suitability of a habitat for an animal and begin to understand food chains. RE is all about Christianity; we will learn how Christians show what they believe and how they show they belong. This will include learning about the story of Creation, the use of prayer and the belief of Christmas. Our Computing unit is all about staying safe online and recognising what we should do if we feel uncomfortable. In Art this term, we will be learning about totem poles from Native America. We will find out about the symbolism of the totem and make our own totem poles. The History topic will mainly be taught cross-curricular through English as we learn about Pocahontas and the Native Americans of the past. Our Geography learning will link to Native Americans too, as we will find out about the weather in the area that Pocahontas lived and how rivers were important to the Native American way of life. We will then make comparisons with our weather here in the UK and the uses of rivers.

Autumn 1.
Our famous person this term is the author and illustrator Oliver Jeffers.
Our key question is - What Can I Learn From A Story?
Our concepts are - Choices, Creativity and Inspiration.
We will be using 2 of Oliver Jeffer's books as our key texts this term - Stuck & What We'll Build. From these we will develop our writing skills for narrative and poetry. We will continue to use Power Maths as our Maths scheme in school, this term we will focus on numbers to 100 and our skills for addition and subtraction. In Science we will be looking at materials and specifically the suitability of materials for a purpose. RE is all about inspirational people; we will learn what it means to be inspirational and about some of the inspirational people in the Bible. The Computing unit is all about the uses of technology, where we will be thinking about how we use IT beyond school in our every day life. In Art this term, we will be learning about Oliver Jeffers as an illustrator and learning how to copy his style. We will also compare the way he draws people to the style of another illustrator. The Music topic is pitch and we will learn to recognise high and low sounds and compare these to loud and quiet.
